Our Projects

At HV Energy Systems we specialise in providing comprehensive high voltage solutions, tailored not only to renewable energy projects but all high voltage connections up to 132kV. Our expertise encompasses a wide range of services aimed at optimising the performance, reliability, and efficiency of High Voltage energy systems.

Fareham 60MW BESS

The Fareham project was delivered over two stages and featured two 33kV grid connections to the SSEN Fareham bulk supply point (BSP) subtstation.

Phase one comprised of a 40MW battery and phase two a 20MW battery. Each phase required the complete contestable work package, to comply with the DNO and relevant standards.

The scope of works included full design and correspondence with the DNO through to design approval, civils works, substation works, 33kV cable works, commissioning and energisation. Both phases of the project were delivered on time and to budget.

One significant challenge of this project was the installation of approximately 1600 metres of ducting beneath the road. To accomplish this, we worked with the council to implement the necessary approvals and permissions. Our team swiftly implemented safety measures, including barriers and clear signage, to ensure public safety and inform local businesses of the ongoing work. Upon completion of the reinstatement, we successfully conducted two cable pulls through newly installed ducts. These pulls were executed well within the cables' maximum pulling tension and bending radius; rigorous over-voltage and sheath tests were passed prior to energisation.

Now fully operational, this facility provides 60MW of electrical power storage to be instantly available to the grid. These projects are essential for the grid to maintain and balance the network as demand changes and other generation exports fluctuate. This becomes a more prevalent issue with the introduction of more renewables; the batteries will work alongside this technology to create operational harmony and avoid blackouts on the network.

"This facility is extremely significant as it represents one of the larger battery storage facilities in the country. The site will produce 40MW of power for the grid for one hour's duration. It will provide essential balancing and network management services to the grid"     -     British Solar Renewables

BSR aspire to create a net zero carbon future through the development of renewables and battery projects. HV Energy Systems are proud to partner with BSR to reach this common goal. Phase one of this project is summarised on the British Solar Renewables website.

Marine Test Facility Upgrade

The Marine Test Facility Upgrade scope included completing detailed design, supply of materials and components, installation of materials and components, and final testing and commissioning of the system.

In order to allow uprated variants of gas turbine engines to be tested over their full power envelope an upgrade of the facility power absorption equipment was carried out. As part of this requirement, it was necessary to replace, upgrade and reconfigure aspects of the existing Medium Voltage system infrastructure and ancillaries associated with the system.

Maldon Solar Park

The Maldon Solar Park project scope of work included the design and installation of a new 33kV loop in loop out grid connection and the design and installation of the new 33kV customer and DNO substations. With the DNO substation being constructed off site at our Bristol facility.

An important design consideration for this project was the integration of a new DNO metering substation, loop in loop out configuration. Whilst meeting our clients requirements for their 33kV systems.

The customer’s site 33kV cable circuit terminations, VLF cable testing, and the inspection & testing of the inverter station MV sections were completed. Following these works, prior to energisation, the site MV infrastructure were controlled under the management of our in-house Senior Authorised Persons (SAPs), including the issuing of Electrical Safety Documents, such as Permit to Work.

Now operational, Maldon Solar Park generates 20MVA of renewable energy to the grid. Owned and operated by Low Carbon.
